With all the ornate sculptures & statues, Bonaventure Cemetery seems more like an outdoor museum than a cemetery. I recommend, parking the car, getting out and walking around to get a close up look at various grave plots and the dates, which reflect the period of time these sculptures were built.
This is such a beautiful place. I went with my brother to look for the statue that's featured on the front of the "Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil", but sadly found out it has been removed. However, there are many beautiful and haunting statues throughout the cemetery.
This is a must to do on a list to visit for Savannah. I was so shocked I was so much just in aye of how much this place is well kept. There is no way to see this place all in a day so I definitely will be back and this will be on my list and it should be on every one's list to seen when in town.
Stunning cemetery! Loads of history and very impressive burial plots. I suggest going in the early morning or late afternoon due to the humidity. We recommend: sturdy, closed toe shoes (no sandals), bug spray, a cooler of water / snacks and either a hat or other type of sun shade.
Cemetery where you can drive around stop at some really interesting sculptures made. Really inquisitive to read the dates on the buried. Some dating back to early 1900. Interesting. Take a visit.
